Day 6 - Armenia School - Sports Camp + Projects

Another morning here in the jungle of Belize where we are greeted by tropical bird calls and howler monkeys. The heat wave continues, but we are only looking at a high of 92 degrees today. ;) We are heading back to the school right after breakfast for a morning of sports games with the school children. Thank your for your prayers that the kids would have fun and feel loved.

Today we all went over to the Armenia Government School to do our final half day working. We taught the kids some of our sports we play in the United States, such as kickball, frisbee, and American football. It was a frigid 92 degrees out. We taught them our sports for a couple hours until 12. After that we said a very emotional goodbye to the kids and then we started heading back over to Jaguar Creek for lunch. Later, we started to head over to the caves. It was a very short walk and we went into a pretty big cave in the middle of the rainforest. After that we drove over to a water hole and hung out there for an hour.

Today is sports camp day! Unfortunately, today is also the last day to hang out with the kids from Armenia Government School. We started the sports day by playing soccer, American football, kickball and frisbee. It is such a great experience to see the kids playing sports together, and they also seemed to really enjoy it. We ended our sports time with a relay game, and the kids were all showing their smiles on the field. Then we went to the back of the building, and we all hugged the kids because it's time for us to say goodbye. The kids let us sign our names on their shirts so that they would remember our names. It's sad because some of the kids were about to cry. There's one kid named Samatha that kept crying because she didn't want us to leave her. I also felt sad to say bye to the kids because the time we spent together is the best time ever. I would remember this experience forever, since it's so special and meaningful.

Today is Thursday and the last day we are going to hang out with the students. Sports is the topic of the day, we teach them to play American football, kick ball, frisbees and of course their favorite sports soccer. All the kids loved sports and they really engaged in every sports even though it was their first time playing it. Time is up, it’s time to say good bye. It’s always hard to say good bye. Although it’s only been three days, the connection we have between the kid is so strong and it takes us more than 30mins to say it. We can tell they really want to remember us because they started  to ask us to sign our name on their shirt. We hope that can be a thing that every time they see it they can think about us and this wonderful week.
Afternoon we went to the natural cave. To see a cave like that really shocked me. It took millions years to form a cave like that.

We had a wonderful last day at the local school being with the kids and helping to make the school more beautiful and safe. In appreciation for our time here, Principal Romero presented Mr. Smithson and Jaguar Creek with recognition for our service this week at Armenia Government School. It really was our privilege to be there. In our sharing this evening, students reflected on how much they were touched by spending time this week with the Belizean children. KJ led our small group time and encouraged us all to think about how our week here will shape our story going forward.
