Day 5 - Armenia School - VBS Camp + Projects

Good morning! It's 7:30 am, 81 degrees, and we are about to enjoy another hearty breakfast prepared by the amazing kitchen staff. We will be heading back to Armenia School today. The VBS team of students and leaders have prepared a fun, Jesus-filled morning for the 3rd and 4th grade students here. We don't appear to be getting much of a break with the weather for the rest of the our TKA students who continue to work on school projects outside, but mandatory water breaks will be reinforced. Thank you for your prayers for soft hearts for our team and the students to learn more about Jesus, for connection with students and for physical health and safety.

We started the day playing freeze tag with the kids, then after starting off camp activities with worship. I then moved on to continuing the work from yesterday, making holes for the concrete base, which were for the fence posts. We then moved to mix concrete, and pushed a barrow full of concrete up a road to the area where we were building the fence. At lunch we headed back to Jaguar Creek, and had meatballs , tamales, rice and veggies, and watermelon for lunch. We went back, and painted the fence posts that we put up, along with painting pretty pictures on the floor of the front building. At the same time, There was another group that cleaned up the concrete mixing area. After a short work period, we headed back to camp, and everyone immediately went to the creek. All in all, the day was very productive and successful.

Today was VBS day at the school. In the morning, I worked on finishing the sidewalk painting in front of the preschool, which was a caterpillar with the letters of the alphabet painted on top. After we finished the project, I helped out in several of the VBS stations, from the bracelets to the storybook, coloring pages, and origami, as I was tasked with guiding the groups of kids to their next station. We went back to Jaguar Creek for lunch, then went straight back to work! In the afternoon, I alternated between moving rocks off of the work site and doing more sidewalk painting for the school. All in all, a productive day of service!

After another 101 degree afternoon of cleaning up from the morning's VBS rotations and working on more school projects, we enjoyed some refreshing time in creek, as well as volleyball and hanging out before dinner. After worship, Ms. Miller lead our evening time outside once again. (83 degrees with 87% humidity. Sticky is the word that comes to mind.) Snaps were given to various TKA students for their support of each other and of the children that we ministered to this morning. Ms. Miller read from various Bible passages from Mark and Galations in light of holy week referencing Simon carrying Jesus' cross and challenging our students to consider what each will take away from this trip and how we can continue having a heart for serving Him.

We look forward to our last day tomorrow working with the children of the local school with fun-filled sports activities. Based on how they responded to some games today, good chance they will love it! And what a blessing it is for us to see their smiles and hear their giggles.
